This plant has upright growth until anthesis when it flattens out. The leaves are 2. 5 inches wide in a rosette about 24 inches across with yellowish or creamy variegation, and suffused with tiny red speckles. In good light the plant develops a bright red veneer overall. The leaves are stiff with many sharp spines. At anthesis the cup flushes red.
