Inleiding

Restauratoren Nederland is verheugd aan te kondigen dat een tweede editie van de gel cursus voor de werkgroep BPF zal worden gehouden in oktober van dit jaar! Ook tijdens deze editie zal boek-en papierrestaurator en gelexpert Françoise Richard ons meenemen in de wereld van de gels. Zij vertelt ons graag meer over de scheikundige werking, het maakproces en applicatie van de gels voor materialen die we zoal tegenkomen in BPF. De workshop is specifiek gericht op het gebruik van solvent-gels voor boeken en papieren objecten. Inhoud workshop

This three-day training by Françoise Richard will focus on the use of gels combined with aqueous solutions and organic solvents for book and paper conservation. During knowledge-based and hands-on sessions, participants will learn about the chemistry and properties of different gels in order to optimize their use in practice. Notions of solubility, toxicity, and sustainability will be directly applied when making and using solvent-gels for the removal of synthetic adhesives. Participants will modify gels and adjust their application methods in order to improve treatment efficiency. Workshop participants are encouraged to bring objects or samples to practice on, such as paper objects with pressure sensitive adhesive stains.

Biografie docent

After graduating with a MA in conservation from Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University, Françoise Richard worked for private and institutional Book and Paper conservation studios in the US, Europe and the UK. In 2017, she moved to Amsterdam where she joined the Rijksmuseum conservation team. In 2020, she started her own company and was granted Metamorfoze funding to research the use of solvent-gels in paper conservation. In 2021, she joined the department of Conservation and Restoration at the University of Amsterdam with a part-time lectureship while continuing to provide conservation services to Dutch cultural institutions.

Aanmelden

Deze workshop is gericht op zowel boek-en papierrestauratoren. Enige basiskennis van chemie is nuttig, academische chemische kennis is echter geen vereiste. Vanwege het beperkte aantal plekken zullen wij in eerste instantie restauratoren toelaten voor wie deze workshop het meeste beoogde nut zal hebben en die bij hun werk met vlekken en lijmresten op boeken en papieren objecten in aanraking komen, alvorens leden die uit louter interesse zouden willen deelnemen een plaats te bieden.
